These were the bane of my existence ... I just can't see what everyone sees lol. One day though, it finally clicked. The only way I can tell is by looking at the inner loop of the 9. On the large date the loop ends very square, on the small date it ends with sort of a tapered tail.

As for the 7 being higher or lower than the rest of the date I just can't see it.... LOL. Good luck! Hope you find one soon!

The best way to tell is by looking at the 9.

It looks like it *may* be a small date. Clearer images are needed for a more definite decision from me, at least.

The LIBERTY is also an important diagnostic, please post clearer pictures of the date and the whole obverse.

Is this coin highly collectable? I think I read that the small date was more in demand I am not sure...

Looks like a large date to me as well.

Small dates are scarcer and would be worth a premium over face value.

With the new pictures, I reverse my call. Large date. The small date ones are the harder to get.

The large dates are common enough that they are only worth face value in circulated condition. The small date 70-S does carry a modest premium. Maybe $15-20 in higher circulated grades or $50 or so in uncirculated grades of 63-65. Ballpark numbers there...
