To answer your question, no. A coin does not to be graded to be sold. The cent blank that you have may be worth up to about four dollars.

I don't won't to go to deep down this rabbit hole, but will see. Currently its not a plain Lincoln, it appears to be a planchet.

A planchet is a blank that's been through the upset mill or process. It will exhibit a proto rim. Weight and diameter will help confirm if it is of US specifications or foreign.

Maybe wrong, but I'm thinking grading might cost more than one would sell for.

Old school used to be Type 1 = blank, and Type 2 = planchet.

NGC has designated listings of Type 1 blanks, Type 2 blanks and planchet.

Coming out of the hole now..... Thanks, Doug.

There are two types of blank planchets. One that has been rolled and has a raised rim ( Type II ) and one that has not yet been rolled ( Type I ).
In the back of my Red Book it tells me that a "No raised rim" ( Type I ) copper Lincoln Cent blank is worth $4.00 retail, where one with a "Raised rim" ( Type II ) must be a little more common being worth $3.00 retail.

Check ebay sold for a value. $4 seems high.
