5.75 for silver,5.67 clad. Try the tissue test but I do not think your coin is silver.

with John1. If you would also take a pic of the edge of the coin, I would like to see the reeded edge.

Must be. Aren't the edges of a 40% silver coin silver in appearance?

The only silver clad quarters I know of were minted in 1976. I have one and it the edge is silver.

A specific gravity test would be conclusive.

CNC coins have a specific gravity of 9.53, and 40% silver clad coins have a specific gravity of 10.34.

Coin seems a bit worn to me. The weight puts it just under the clad tolerance +/- 0.227 grams. The current tissue test and edge view images suggest copper / nickel clad.

Maybe wrong, but my specific gravity reference shows -

10.34 - 90% silver
9.53 - 40% silver clad
8.92 - Copper / nickel clad

Thanks, Doug.

And well outside the tolerance range for 40% silver. 5.75 grams +/- .2 grams so minimum of 5.55 grams

Doug, you are absolutely correct. I have an Excel spreadsheet with the numbers, and I tracked down the wrong line. My bad.

That'll teach me about posting while The Boss is giving me my updated honey-do list!
