Friends,

Looking through bunch of bank rolled nickels, I came across a cache of nickels, most of them are war time nickels. Please take a look at the attached 1944P Wartime nickel and let me know your thoughts as to "error or damage"

Thanks
Topeka

@TG, I assume that you are talking about the region between LIBERTY and the date. If so, this looks to be a lam. For whatever reason (wartime, different alloy, etc.), these seem to be relatively common on these coins.

Edit, ok I just noticed your green arrows, so yes both regions look like laminations to me.

with Spence and, wow, four rolls of War Nickels! The starting value for them is about $1 each, even in worn condition.

Lamination failure, caused by pre strike planchet defect.
Small pieces of the coin have fallen off, most probably after the coin was issued into circulation.
Rest in Peace

@ OP , If you found 4 rolls of bank wrapped wartime Nickels then there could be a lot more at the bank you got them from . The distributer takes random coins from the hopper ,wraps them ,then ships to bank . I would have bought all of those rolls of Nickels that that bank had very soon after the discovery .
