I think it's a fine looking coin.
A few dark spots never hurt anything.

I'd say VF-20

I think I would like to see better pics of the mint mark , something there does not look quite right .

the shape /angle at the bottom is non characteristic of the 14-D

Here's a slightly better pic of the date and mintmark. This coin came from a certified NGC/PCGS dealer who took a class in Counterfeit Detection so I know they would look at this key date coin closely.

Looks genuine to me; the date and mintmark are a good match for a reference photo in the PCGS grading & counterfeit book. Color looks good, marks are few, and the dark spots are I think acceptable in a mid-grade circulated copper coin. I agree with Shaft on a grade of VF-20.

Nice pickup!

That was exactly how I graded the coin. I traded in my problem 1914-D (ANACS F12 details, scratched) plus a little cash to get this one. I'll will be submitting this to either PCGS or NGC.

Does anyone else think it might come back "cleaned". The only reason I think that is the discoloration around the letters and wheats. Other than that, I agree VF20, nice looking 14-D!

Soild VF20, if I could see the wheatlines and portrait better, it might go a VF25 even. It's an attactive coin IMO, I'd take it.

Chris - I don't think it's been cleaned.

So would I!
I eagerly await to see how it is graded by PCGS or NGC.

My goal is to go back and upgrade most of my small cent key dates, to higher grade and or no problem coins, with the exception of the 1856FE, cuz I don't feel like spending another 5-8k on it.
