Since that cannot reasonably exist as an S/D, then it is damage to the mintmark. Occam's razor.

to CCF. Looks like a D mint mark that took a circulation hit. John1

@OtGspartan, first welcome to CCF. Second, yes I agree with the others that the mintmark is damaged. It looks a little bit like an S, but didn't look that way leaving the mint. Finally, your pictures are super, by the way. Thanks for taking the time to make them well-lit, in-focus, and rotated appropriately.

Thank you all for your feedback and warm welcome. I had it narrowed down to either PMD or a repunched D with a counterclockwise 1st or 2nd strike....Yet, the more I looked at it, my mind circled back to D/S. Do any of you recommend a particular high-powered USB microscope (in the $30-$50 range)? Thanks again!

to the CCF Looks to me like the downward stroke of the "D" has taken a hit pushing it inward giving it the somewhat look of an "S". It certainly didn't happen during the striking of the coin so it is PMD.

Here's a cheap USB microscope you can get on ebay for 35.95. A lot of the forum members have these and they get the job done easy. 262361512520

Also the right side of the mint mark has heavy Machine Doubling. The void is just a contact mark on the coin. Note the other one NE of that area near the rim. Probably a parking lot coin.
