Found this at work today? I've never seen a gold toned quarter before, I thought it was missing clad... but from what I've gathered, that usually is darker in color... What do you guys think?

Notice how the gold color is worn away on some of the portrait. I think it was painted.

I am Absolutely not an expert but could it be plated then worn down? I am curious what the pros say.

The rim is completely silver... would that be because it's bren worn off? I figure if it's been painted then the rim would have some sort of coloring, but it doesn't

Not an expert, but I'm happy to provide my opinion too. I'd say either painted or plated--doesn't really matter because this coin is a spender. I see a broken post on the mintmark, but nothing else to suggest that this coin is 2x2 worthy.

Update.... it is paint! I scratched the coin to see if it would come off... and it did lol
