Hi,

I have been searching Offerup for rare coins and found a cent 1914 D that looks so worn that it is hard to even see the date. I can't get a jpeg of the cent but just want to know your opinion is a 1914 D cent worth $165.00 in any condition.

I also found a 1909 S cent that has some, what looks like, rim error or damage. They are asking $100.00.

Since I am new is this the direction to go and find rare coins?

The 1914 D cent is a heavily faked coin, just make sure it's real first.

Untill you are comfortable with your grading skills, understand pricing and can spot basic fakes, stick to coins in NGC or PCGS TPG holders that are priced over $100 as you will make less mistakes. A general rule if you can not read the date or it is hard to see, do not buy the coin as a collectible. There are exceptions to buying some rare dateless coins that the date can be determined by die markings or type. You can find a 1914D cent F12 n a TPG holder that the date is very easy to read in the $165 price range.

Welcome to CC!

If you don't know anything about coins, especially expensive ones, DO NOT BUY THEM >>>

That is - until you take the time to educate yourself about coin collecting. Millions of people a year lose money to coin scams of every sort. It may not even be a scam but just someone taking advantage of your ignorance to make money.
