Well, someone paid up for this fake. And they even assigned a "+" grade to boot. What struck me was that the 2X2 flip appears old. Link below, and photos attached for posterity. https://www.ebay.com/itm/-/323642692244 Edited by Darth Morgan 01/13/2019 4:40 pm

Just because something ended on ebay doesn't mean anyone ever paid or didn't just buy it to file a claim on it

Old 2x2, new staples...and a date/mintmark combination that doesn't exist.
I don't know of anyone buying fake coins on purpose just to make claims on them (it seems that would tie up a large amount of your cash while waiting) but I suppose it's not outside the realm of possibility...

Quote: So someone placed the winning bid in order to stop the transaction and report it? They could have. Remember ebay is not an auction house, buyers can back out of whatever they want whenever they want. They don't force you to pay and don't even really do anything to buyers who don't pay. So yes there are people that for whatever reason want to spend their time bidding things like that up and not paying ect

I can imagine someone stumbling upon the listing with very little time left and "winning" it just for the purpose of reporting the item. Good for them. And you're right about the power buyers have on ebay. That's why I LOVE ebay.

Even if it was real, it sure doesn't look like "MS-64+" to me.

Seller has a new listing 1927 Peace dollar in a nearly identical 2x2. The rest of their items are garage sale junk. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1927-P-PEA...FS:rk:1:pf:0 I have actually bid on and won a couple obvious counterfeits, probably several years ago now, so people do use that strategy. My Paypal card was expired and at the time I was fed up with the fake sellers and ebay doing nothing about them (I had reported the seller multiple times over several days). There were no repercussions to me as a buyer and it was just the one time. I don't bother with it anymore but I'm not surprised that others would do it.
