Started going through some old coins I had. Came across this 1942 Mercury dime. Normal overall except above the f in the word of on the reverse. It looks as if there is another letter stamped there. There is a nick above this on the rim. At first glance I thought it was just pushed down from the rim. After looking at it I figured it wasn't possible since the base of it is wider on both side than the nick itself. It also goes all the way up to the rim and can see the edge of the rim between the two. Any thoughts? I couldn't find any info on another one like this.
Thanks in advance. Sorry about the photos. I took them from my phone.

Die chip, possibly? Probably doesn't affect value, which isn't much to start with.

I agree with Coinfrog.
Looks like a small diechip.
Either way, there would be no premium for it.

Ok thanks guys. I was going to put it under the microscope to examine it closer. Of course, I was hoping it would have been something rare. Thanks for the opinions. I appreciate the replies.

Thanks for the help. I'm trying to learn a little more about errors, variety and damage. I appreciate all the help. here's what it looked like under the microscope. Also it's a 42 so I checked for the 42/41 error. I don't think this is but it has a weird 1ish or 7ish shape sticking out of the 2. I doubt it's anything but I'm trying to learn. Here are the numbers pics also

Your die chip is just a ding on the inner rim. Your date is normal.
