Today I have looked at hundreds of 1979D LMC's and all seem to have the RPM but some also have Cud damage and rim damage. (please correct my terminology) still learning! The 1979's seem to have a much different finish and color compared to the 1978's. Some also appear to have Mechanical Doubling. Which one's do you normally like to "collect".

No RPM,no Cud and looks more like DDD than MD.

Thanks John1 for the info. I don't mean to waste your time. I guess I can watch some you tube videos on these topics before posting. I sure thought that big fat D was a RPM but should have known better since it looked similar on every coin!

More food for thought. This mint mark style (MMS-008 for cents) ran for 13 years, 1979 being the last, it changed in 1980. Thinking it was used for most if not all Denver dies.

The rim is not fully shown, but currently thinking the proto rim did not strike up fully.

Cuds are generally described as die breaks in the field that's adjacent to the design rim. Thanks, Doug.

At some point during 1979 the D mintmark punch became damaged and resulted in a shape that mimics a tilted rpm. Many 1979-D's show this anomaly.
