I'm very new to this. Ive searched everywhere and can't find anything like it. I've attached pictures of the quarter. It has a weird coloring. Orangish, red & black. Any insight would be great. Thanks!

Welcome! That quarter you have there is a silver Washington quarter which is 90% silver. Silver as a precious metal tarnishes when exposed to outside environmental factors. The colors that that one has toned are actually very desirable and are very appealing to the eye. Just out of curiosity how did you come across this one?

My great grandfather who was 97 years old passed away. He had hoarded quite the coin collection. I have barely started searching but this one stood out to me! Thank you for the information. Is it worth anything? Or just something I should hold on too?

To CCF , I agree about toning but this type of blotchy toning I find not too appealing for my taste . If you like it that's fine .

@ag257, first welcome to CCF. Second, your coin looks more like a '63 than a '64 on the date, but silver nonetheless as others have pointed out. Yes it is worth saving. You will find some people like the toning while others do not.

I like the toning personally. But to each it's own. As for value, I'd pay $5-8 for it and that's probably what you would get from another collector. (JBuck don't yell at me I didn't offer to buy it)

I suspect this coin would not bring a premium over its melt value - less than $3. To the CCF!

to CCF. I agree that the value is melt. The toning lacks eye appeal. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your collection. John1

I'm gonna go with @GrapeCollects - value is $5-8 because he said that's how much he would pay.
But don't worry @GrapeCollects - we won't hold you to it.

A few I thought were interesting. I've never seen before. 1847,1848,1851 & 1917 I believe.

The half dollar is maybe $10, the 1848 ~$25-30, the 1847 ~$10, the 1851 $60-80
