Even the real ones are fake. Real fake ones were struck in 1834. Fake real fake ones were struck again around 1858 by a rogue mint employee. They are all nearly priceless.

I do enjoy these posts of yours because I get to look up coins I don't know about, but I'm genuinely curious. What makes you think this seller has a two or four million dollar coin laying around on their fake wood desk? I'm not trying to be nasty, I'm just really curious. Is there a really convincing sales pitch involved? I find this fascinating, that someone like you comes on here asking "real or fake", when clearly you can look it up and know that a real one is worth many millions of dollars. The psychology of this phenomenon is more interesting to me than the coin.

nss-52, true, but richardvador has come on the forum about a dozen times, each time to ask about a coin that if real would be worth tens of thousands to millions if real, each time with fairly easy to determine fakes that have been offered to him or that he has a chance to buy for practically peanuts.

This GENUINE 1804 Mexican, 8 real dollar coin suits me. Now, if only it had a U.S. counterstamp!

jgfindring - exactly. I'm just trying to understand it. Does the "strike it rich" mindset overwhelm all rational thought, or what?

kbbpll no need to defend your comments I feel the exact same way after seeing enough posts like this.

At the end of the day I just conclude sometimes it's manufacturers that come on here to figure out details to make their product more convincing.

It happens. We have removed posts in the past when we were able to prove it.
