I know the chances of a re-design are slim, due to the size of dimes. Even so, I'm hopeful. The new quarter designs (and dollar) seem to focus on events. This would make a dime re-design even less likely. Details are lost on small coins. However, our coins tend to have phases. They usually tend to have themes, no matter the coin. The nickel and penny are not fitting with the larger coin's theme. This makes me hopeful for an updated reverse. What does everyone else think?

to the Community! Your post was moved to the appropriate forum for the proper attention. The dime needs a makeover and I think the best time to have done it was 1996.

Evolution of U.S. coin design proceeds at much less than glacial speed in some cases. Such is the case of the obverse Lincoln design for the penny.
Don't bait your breath waiting for a change in dime design: you may end up suffering with a severe case of halitosis.

You must be kidding, the Roosevelt dime is the most beautiful design in the history of our country. The only way to make it more beautiful is to make it out of tin.

My best guess would be that they change it in 2021(75 year anniversary) or in 2046(100 year anniversary). Like stated above, don't get your hopes up.

I'd rather they make over all the coins in 2026 (Sestercentennial, Quarter-millennial, whatever you want to call it). Get rid of all of the dead presidents at the same time and bring back Lady Liberty.

Change is coming, just a matter of guessing when. But my guess would be and changes would most likely end the Roosie and replace him with someone (or something) else.

I don't know if they will be able to remove Roosevelt until most of the baby boomers die off. The "Greatest Generation grew up venerating him, and the baby boomers grew up with their parents telling them all the time how great he was.

Interesting topic. I believe it will, perhaps as soon as a few years. The mint began with the quarter, and by legislation it will be redesigned again following the America the Beautiful series. Next was the Jefferson in 2004 and 2005 onward. The Lincoln Cent four years later. That leaves the dime and half. Since the Kennedy half, to my knowledge is not released into circulation, leaves only the Roosevelt. So my personal thoughts are somewhere around that of the quarter getting another face lift. As for a change in our coinage overall, it's long overdue to replace ALL of the former Presidents with something more emblematic of The United States. The artists and sculptors which are employed by the U.S. Mint have tremendous talent left hidden from the non-collector since the only things they produce are bullion, commemoratives and medals.

Now here is a thought. Why not change the dime to have a face on it like a winged lady. We could then call it a Mercury dime.
