Hello, so I have been learning to correctly identify a coin's possible error/damage; so just for clarification, this 1982 Penny just has a PSD, and nothing more? Thanks, and if you'd like to add/correct to me, go ahead. P:S: Sorry that the photo is on it's side! I'm still trying to figure out this image optimizer. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***Edited by morganhuls 02/12/2019 8:48 pm

@MH, assuming that your 1982 cent is copper plated zinc, it looks to me like the zinc planchet wasn't cleaned properly prior to being plated. Perhaps you can post the weight of this coin?

@Spence, unfortunately I don't have a scale, and the only one I can use very soon is in my Science teacher's classroom. I can get the mass by tomorrow, is that ok?

Alternatively you could try a ring rest - ring/flip a few pre-82 pennies and a few post-82 pennies. Which one does this sound more alike? That will tell you if it's zinc or copper.
What are you seeing on the coin that is either damage or error?

@Illwellin, I'm looking at the 2 in 1982, as it looked a little odd to me.

Alright, I did the test and the 1982 penny sounds more like the pre-82 pennies, so I'm leaning towards 3.1 g.

Quote: I can get the mass by tomorrow, is that ok? Take as much time as you need. I think that if your cent is copper (not plated zinc), then this is most likely just surface damage.

Ok, so for some reason I forgot to take the penny to school today, it must've slipped my mind. I'll be sure to get it by tomorrow!

Hello all; sorry for not being specific enough. I am focusing on the 2 in 1982, and it looked a little odd to me. I wasn't exactly focusing on the tie and coat, but if there is something wrong there could you explain it please? :)

Weight... popsicle stick weight scale. take a popsicle stick and place a 3.1g cent on one side and the 1982 cent on the other side.
I read about the poor mans scale in a forum. I will try this out one of these days if I get back to eating popsicles.
