Today an 1834 Bust Quarter with the O over F in the "United States Of America" Legend on the reverse. It looks like a curved "bridge" between the letters in "of" making them look attached to each other. Its a very solid VF30+ with the third lowest mintage in the 8 years the small size bust quarter was minted.(286,000) Mike

I've bought more low-grade coins for my hoard. As usual for these, they grade AG-VG, and some are corroded or damaged or have been cleaned. The price is right, however. Quantity over quality again!

Large cents: 1800, 1830, 1834, 1840, 1844, 1845, 1848, 1850, 1856; 2 cents: 1864 LM, 1865; Seated half dimes: 1840O, 1850; Walking Liberty half dollar: yet another 1921S (I now have 5 of them)

I noticed later that the 1834 large cent has a rotated reverse (about 30 degrees). This sort of error isn't rare for these earlier coins, but it is interesting anyway. This one isn't bad looking either; it grades approx. VG and it is a bit darker than usual.

I do sometimes spend the money on really nice coins, but in some ways I like the junkier ones better. They have more character.

Well I didn't buy much in my trip to the old coin shop yesterday. My dealer did inform me that he had "underpaid" my wife for a coin last week, and after checking it again he thought it would indeed make MS-63 so he sent another $60 home to her! We definitely have a DEALER THAT IS A KEEPER!!! I picked up a couple of 2006 Silver Eagles to add to my own personal 401K at home. Actually I call it my 401C (coin)as the coins purchased are strictly my emergency fund in the event I need extra cash for anything. I am not attached to them and they are only extras for such a purpose. I can sell anything I buy for my 401C without breaking up anything in my permanent collection. EVERYONE needs a 401C!!!

Got this a little while ago, but someone wouldn't send it to me 'cause he wanted to play with it.

DJ, sounds like a good week! It should be fun trying to run down silver dollars from all over the world. I agree heartily that the forum has helped create an interest in world coins. Mike P.S, great thread!!!!!!

djluster take the time to check out South American crown sized silver coins. You can pick up a high grade Peru from the late 1800's in the $15 to $20 range if you are patient and watch ebay closly. There is one in the Perpetual Give-A-Way set that I really hated to part with! Very pleasant design from a long long time ago! You can always just do a search on ebay for crowns!

My buy of the week, up to right now, would be the set of unc. Lithuania coins I received yesterday! Every one of them features a KNIGHT on HORSEBACK! Imagine that!!!

Thanks to Terry (Crystalk64) I received my Netherlands 2 Ducat Gold coin yesterday. Beautiful, but even more cool the Knights Wooden Dollar was in the package! My 1/10 oz Australian Gold "Croc" coin from "Bigfella" arrived. A 1908 $10.00 Indian, 1909 $5.00 Indian and 1914D $2.50 Indian gold coins came as well. A very Golden week! Thanks again Terry!!! Oops,I almost forgot, a very sharp 1827 VF30+ Bust half that going to be mailed off to a freind of mine.
