Came across this nice 1948 D JN (except for the "Hitler Mustache" someone might have intentionally added!).

Does the MM look like it matches VV's listing of RPM 003?

It appears it has the indentation at the top of the vertical piece of the D, although not as pronounced as the sample photo (last photo below).

Also, there appears to be a definite second line around the curved portion of the D. I've added photos in various rotations to show it's not a shadow or trick of the light.

Any Thoughts would be helpful,

Thanks,

H

I am not too comfortable with Jefferson RPM's, yours looks like a Die Deterioration Doubling with a lot of metal flowing and looks like it is in a VLDS.

( that last picture you have posted is not from your coin, is it?)

I may be mistaken. I checked Variety Vista's image files and your last picture is from their file.

Here are links for your comparison:

J.Wexler WRPM-001 http://doubleddie.com/1469066.html

V.Vista RPM-003 http://www.varietyvista.com/05%20JN...8DRPM003.htm

The Mustache looks like it could be a Carbon spot.

No RPM. Just Die Deterioration Doubling from a worn out die issue, from striking a ton of planchets at the U.S. Mint.

But wouldn't you expect to see evidence of a deteriorated die on the rest of the reverse as well if that were the case? Surely the MM wouldn't be the only place it would show up. And the rest of this reverse is very sharp.
