Can anyone comment on possible values listed in the book verses real world values? Any guess as to what grade this coin in?

I am always hesitant to grade a coin that actually has value based upon a picture. Grading is an "in hand" procedure.

Moving into the realm of a fair guess though, MS-63 or so.

It must be said though that a picture does not allow me to move the coin around to look for rubs that would indicate a nice AU coin.

so a range....If AU, $50.00 to $70.00. If MS63 , $150.00 or so.

So, if this coin is going to ebay, my guess does not count as a grade on this coin.

Thanks,
Bill

Thanks Bill

I would rather not sell it on ebay but would like to sell it somewhere. Needless to say I was VERY excited when I found this. Do you think this coin merits being graded?

I can't tell it's a DDR from the pictures. I have a hard enough time seeing one in hand.

I'm not seeing a doubled die. Could be the images, but there's no evidence I can see.

For Chuck and those who may not see it.

This is a weird little DDR. The arrows point to the parts that exhibit doubling. I lightened the pics and added the arrows. It is on the bottom right of the torch and the bottom right part of the stem that the doubling appears.

It is FS-10-1954-801 in the CherryPickers' Guide.

It is not listed in the CONECA files, to my knowledge.

Thanks,

Interesting...a selective class 4 DDR where the doubling isn't centered in the design. That one is unusual.

Hi of-grampa,

It is a much better looking piece than the one in the CPG. Slabbing it is possibly an advantage if it is MS and not just AU and I can't tell from the pictures. You would have to have that figured out first. If AU, it's not worth the fee for slabbing in my humble opinion. If MS-60 or above , it would be.

From the standpoint of the numismatic world, you might want to consider first having the coin photographed by a resident photo expert before you go further as it would make a nice record for someone to use as a reference. I might suggest using the forum to email coppercoins and see if he is willing to record the coin for numismatic posterity:-)

It's a nice coin.

Chuck,

It catches people by surprise because it almost doesn't make sense :-) You would expect to see other doubling in the same direction.
