I've been doing a lot of 1964 proofs lately. Without actually looking at anything but your images I'd say that's pretty darn close to DDR-002. The die scratch between the R and I of AMERICA can be obvious or need some serious tilting of the coin to see it, so take a close look there before giving up on trying to nail it down yourself. I found a very similar one two nights ago that I also thought was DDR-002, but it did not have the die scratch, so there is at least one other very similar one out there or an unlisted die stage for DDR-002.
Nice coin.

In hand I couldn't match it to DDR-002, I'll go back and try again but perhaps this is a different die state. You're right they look extremely similar.

I attributed a 1964 DDR-004 last night and remembered this coin. Also pretty similar although I think the bottom of the C in AMERICA is wrong. Worth a quick bit of tilting the coin around while looking at the last bay in the memorial for the vertical die scratches. Your coin is early enough die stage that they would be there. I find the photos on VV of this one to not be super clear as to what is going on but those die scratches will match perfectly if you've got it.

After inspecting closer, it is a ddr-002 in an unlisted die state, as is doesn't have the listed die markers, but the doubling is the same in all places.

This is a proof coin from a proof set I purchased for 20 dollars. The half dollar and quarter were minor doubled dies. There might be sms cents in the wild haha.

@SilverStackerKid, What did you use for the closeup photos? They are fantastic!
What a great coin. You sure hit the jackpot with that proof set!

I use a simple microscope and a digital camera pointed through the scope. Getting the lighting right can be so difficult sometimes haha but they come out well when I put time into it. I appreciate the comment.

Nice find. Did it jump out at you like I said? When you find a nice DDR, then you realized how hard you looked at so many coins that weren't doubled dies. They do jump out at you.
