Wouldn't it be nice if today's grading companies gave you this much information on your submissions? It would certainly take more than the 7 second average our coins receive today! FWIW, Van Allen gave this coin a Strong DMPL, which would easily put it in pcgs plastic at full dmpl today (more than 8 inches reflectivity) or earn an UDM with anacs. I missed out on this piece since at the time I thought the S stood for Semi-PL and I never saw the coin in hand. If I ever see another, I'll jump on it. That coin was graded by someone who knew what he was doing, and wasn't afraid to put his name to it! I have to agree, I wish all grading services could offer the same services, but the pricetag for such personalization would probably be through the roof. :(

Neat, I've never seen one. Quote: That coin was graded by someone who knew what he was doing, and wasn't afraid to put his name to it! PCI has done it on two different series of slabs, SEGS has done it, DGS is doing it, Sear does it for ACCS (Ancient Coin Certification Service),and Rick Snow does it. There are probably others. The fee isn't high.

I think all TPG should explain how they came up with the grade and what kept it from being the next higher grade.

Quote: Haven't seen it either. Graded in 1980 WOW'WE. I think you will find that is either 1988 or 1989. It can't be 1980 because the certificate references the PCGS number and they didn't come into existence until 1986.
