Hello. I have a 1966 Rosevelt dime and it looks rusted. Is that possible?

@FP, first welcome to CCF. Second, yes it is possible for a dime to look rusted. For example, it may have been exposed to a chemical or the environment which has stained the surface. However, a dime cannot actually rust as it is not made from iron or steel. It would be great if you could post a picture or two of your dime.

Looks like a metal detector find to me, possibly from the beach.

Yes that looks like surface staining from environmental exposure.

To CCF! I agree that you just have an Environmentally Damaged Dime. It's spendable, since it's just damaged.

Might've been in a coffee can with nails or such that can rust.

Ok. Thank you all. What a disappointment. Was hoping it was missing a clad.
