Unbelievable that the Coroner decided it didn't class as treasure. Hopefully it will go to a museum anyway. For reference, here's the BM's example, just as spectacular, if a littled dinged in places:

Agree also. I always thought there is a market for metal detecting tours. I did find one in the UK on trip advisor. Know nothing about them though.

There have recently been some changes proposed for the UK's 1996 Treasure Act to prevent important objects from slipping through the cracks. As I understand the current law, all individual gold objects more than 300 years old qualify as treasure except gold coins, which must number two or more as a single find. https://www.archaeology.co.uk/artic...ndowners.htm
