I'd like to repost this coin and reopen this topic for discussion to see if I can get some fresh opinions as the last received left me unsatisfied. Anyone ever seen the likes of this coin Edited by Babyjay511 04/25/2019 05:51 am

@babyjay511, in looking at the last time you posted this coin http://goccf.com/t/292880), the general consensus was that the rim and Lincoln's face had both been damaged. Although your pic is a bit grainy, I also see nothing but damage. That is still just a scrape.

Babyjay511- That was two years ago you posted it, what makes you think anything has changed? I rotated and enhanced your photo to get a better look at the surface. From what I can see, the rim has taken a hit that flattened it and Abe's face has been scraped and has pushed the metal so it has accumulated. Neither of these could happen during the striking of the coin so it is PMD

Spence, the strange thing is, is that it's not a scrape at all, ita more of a bubble with no damage on either side of it. I'm going to try to upload some better photos of it. My phone camera is Jenky at best but let me try to use my wife's professional camera.

Just saying, you should probably send it in for grading if you think it is what you think it is, and won't take others opinions on it. looks like a scrape to me also, abe's cheek has been scraped back, it doesn't even look like it should between the nose and the "tear drop" eyebrow also looks scraped back. Even the jawline is distorted because of the scraping. I believe the rim and the face all happened at the same time, post mint. maybe jammed in an automatic door.
Send it in for grading and you will know 100% what the professionals have to say about it and can put it to rest. probably worth the grading fees than to spend another 2 years wondering on it.

It's all Post Strike Damage ( PSD) 100%. This is impossible to happen at the U.S. Mint, it just doesn't work that way.

@bj511, clearly you are seeing something with the coin in hand that we aren't seeing in your pics. I encourage you to attach better pics, perhaps with a nice close up of Abe's cheek. In the end though, I hope you are willing to accept the wisdom of the CCF collective here.

If this were a die caused mint error (that's almost 70 years old) others would have been found long ago! Think about it!
