I was penny roll hunting and found this penny it is the same diameter as a dime but thicker, the edge doesn't look worn it looks like it's missing the ridge. I weighed it and it's 2.6 grams I weighed a dime and it 2.3 grams. I took some pics any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.

I think someone altered the cent to fit in a dime coin roll. PMD

Thanks for the Welcomes and I appreciate your help. The edge doesn't look like it was ground down or sanded on it looks just like a normal penny.

I agree with the op. The edge doesn't look like it was sanded or ground down to me either. Compressed inward maybe, not like a vise but maybe like a round cable lug die crimper or something like that...

Feel like it has to be PMD of some sort though, the cent doesn't fit into a dime collar and the edge would have Reeding on it if it somehow could even if they used the cent dies.

Doesn't look acid dipped either it would be thinner not thicker.

Strong magnetic field on the edges to compress it maybe?
Science people do strange things to coins for experiments.
Maybe it's that. Saw a video of some dude using a magnetic field to melt steel once.

Looks like it was cut from the top to the bottom. The letters are flattened on the reverse:

If the weight is under, then was probably altered.

Both obverse and reverse have a rounded edge, it does look very similar though.
