Looks more like a pushed in edge from Post Strike Damage ( PSD). I am not seeing a Clip.

Yes sorry @ag, but I agree with the others that this looks more like damage than a clip. Can you also post a pic of this area on the edge? Thx.

I'll throw the data, I think it's a clip

Close-up pic of the edge would help.

I'm doubting this is a clip. It does look more like damage. A clip would show a partial arc of a nickel outside edge. Just not seeing that on this one. But an edge view would be great.

The inner edge of the rim should be a smooth curve. On the OP coin where the "clip" is the inner edge of the rim bow inward toward the center. Not a clip but an edge dent to has pushed the rim inward slightly.

Those are really nice pics--thanks for adding them to this thread. Despite the fact that you cracked this out of the mint packaging, it still looks like damage to me.

Seems illogical for a proof coin, but this must be PSD.

Yep, PSD unfortunately. A hit caused the rim to get pushed in.

The added images show that the affected area raised the rim. So it was done after the strike. But was it dropped at the mint before it was sealed in the proof set? Doesn't really matter now, as it was removed. (hard to prove now) but it is not a striking error. Thanks for the extra images. Always nice to know for sure.
