I found this anomaly on the reverse of a 1964D silver Washington quarter. I found it while looking for speeding eagles because I did find a 1964 speeding eagle quarter as well at first I thought it might be a scratch but I don't think so the reverse of the coin is otherwise flawless. Would love to get some opinions

@e2019, sorry but I agree with @john1 and @cp1 that the eagle took a hit to its neck (see below). As I recall, "spitting eagles" are those with a die crack coming off the beak. This is definitely not that. On the other hand, it is a silver quarter and that is pretty nice to have.

I'm in the "hit" camp. OP - the correct spelling is "die".

Guys, would it be fair to say..all die pairs suffer from clashes during their lifespan?...On OPs post I see some vertical markings in the middle of the bottom of the beak, maybe part of "middle throat detail" and not the "throat outline" which is the normal spitting eagle die clash.. see what I'm saying ?

Edited: Yes the mark on the neck is PMD..doesn't anyone see the vertical marking under the middle of the beak?

Eagles2019: There is a line under the neck yes but we cant tell what it is. Can you get a closer picture please! Also MOST of the spitting eagles I have seen, the die crack comes from the tip of the beak so I would be comfortable saying its not a spitting eagle error sorry but keep looking and have fun. P.S. If It turns out to be a Die Break and a new find you can name it the drooling eagle.
