I really like the PCGS labels and real signature offerings overall much much better.

As far as signature labels go, I'm in agreement with you on that as well. PCGS is superior. I think NGC labels are better in terms of graphics and photos. I really like their labels for the ATB Quarter series, for example.

generally no. I am more interested in the coin by itself, but I realize some there are some ASEs that could be/are worthy of holding in a slab. I do have some, about a dozen, I think. minimalism & practicality figure into it. some posts above have also hit on other reasons for & against them, and I share many of those views, but a signature— real or printed— or a particular graphic on a label don't really carry much weight for me. actually, I prefer a plain, unspectacular label. sometimes that stuff is just too near the neighborhood of gimmicky for me to be interested. I'm really not wanting to put too much into slabbed coins. I have my own protocols for assembling my stuff and I really stick to them.

thanks to all who have replied to this poll/post. I enjoy reading all the different perspectives. I hope more ppl chime in.

(when I was a kid, it was Ikes... Eisenhower dollars were plentiful and I loved holding & playing with them, same with old Morgans.. I think that's likely one reason why I am attracted to ASEs)

Ummm...not meant to age myself (upper 60's) but I remember riding my bike to the local bank to get silver dollars (the REAL ones) and I always preferred the Morgans....and for a buck how could you go wrong....

They didn't always have many but it was a once a month trip to two banks for me...kinda like a treasure hunt

I would not pay extra for a special label, BUT if I'm buying a graded ASE, I try to get the Black Retros. The Retros make the silver stand out from the slab packaging. Often times they are the same price as plain blue or brown slabs. So, I don't pay more but I do prefer a specific look.
