Poll Question
By special, I mean one that is signed by someone or has a special graphic on it. If you answer yes, please comment on the holder(s) you would pay extra for and why.
Thanks for participating.

ASE = American Silver Eagle.. OK, why would I pay extra? It is a one ounce silver piece..Should be widely recognized as such...But NO..... By slabbing it becomes an even deader piece of silver. An ounce is an ounce is an ounce. Give me a common date Walker in AU condition -- THAT is a pretty coin..(and affordable!) If you want to collect the ASE then go for it.... Not for me.....

I never pay more for labels, I collect coins not labels. The only labels worth bothering with are provenance labels and even then I would not pay more.

I voted NO, but then I thought about it.
If I could find a buyer willing to pay me more than I paid, maybe I would buy one.

I agree with all of the reasons already stated.

Absolutely yes. The label is part of the presentation of the coin, no different than people who get custom folders etc. Especially yes for signatures if I liked it and they were real, but no for the autopen ones

I don't even buy raw ASE's. They are overpriced pieces of silver.

I voted no, of course. For me, ASE's are just bullion, so I certainly wouldn't buy one slabbed. I can't make myself see them as anything special, but they are BIG silver coins, so I get why people collect them. Now, let them change the design to the silver buffalo, and it will instantly become a "shut up and take my money" coin, for me anyway. Quote: The label is part of the presentation of the coin I see it this way too. NGC leads in this area, IMO.

If you are going to buy bullion silver, better to buy 1 kilo silver bars instead?

The OP did not mention which ASE, proof and burnished are not bullion coins.

Generally no (and I have yet to buy one), but I might buy one if I were worried about authenticity. Say... for the 95W.

That would be an absolutely not. I look for them as cheap as possible in the 69-70 range despite what the label says and only to ensure they are genuine. ASE's are a high counterfeit target you know. Moreso than the Trade dollars of the past.

If you like the looks of the slab and enjoy their looks enough to pay more, then there is no problem - its a hobby. Enjoy it the way you like. Some people really enjoy a the looks of a group of slabs.
Be aware of the reality that if any coin is broken out and resubmitted to the same company, without any change to the coin at all, the coin is never guaranteed the same grade again. Its not a science.
The subjectivity behind the grading systems is what helps keeps the businesses going well for the companies. The extra cost paid for a slab is an artificial value attached to the coin by the company (or else it would never be changeable) for their opinion and "expertise."
This is why you will see so many times on CCF to buy the coin and not the holder.

There's no "" about expertise for the top tier companies just as has been pointed out in the numerous threads about them when these ready to go boiler plate posts come up. The honest truth is that the top tier TPGs and TPG graders overall can grade circles around the overwhelming majority of their biggest critics
