I've been trying to decide whether or not this coin is the real deal. I've been doing all kinds of research but I don't actually have the coin to look at. actually 2 coins. It's a friend's coin[s] and so I only have these pictures to determine and I'm not an expert.

If anyone has an answer for me that would be a big help!

Looks like a Chinese fake and probably will stick to a magnet.

Rims and denticles are too perfect. Design elements not right with wrong positioning.

Google a pic of a legit one (find a slabbed example), then compare the pics.

The pictured coin is 110% guaranteed to be a counterfeit/replica that probably originated from China.

I recently saw one of those Facebook retailers pop up in my news feed, and they had a whole set of fake dollar sized coins just like this one for $25. There was a Trade dollar, draped bust, flowing hair. They also sell bootleg video games. I collect both coins and video games, and it is scary that these internet algorithms curated by the likes of google and Facebook can make these things pop up. It's good to come to places like this to stay informed, so when something like I mentioned pops up, you'll know when to call BS.

You may want to take your friend out for Chinese to help console him/her on this purchase. A good egg roll and wonton soup can't hurt.

One look at the raised rim and you know it is bad.

The easiest way to tell with these Chinese counterfeits is to look at the date. The font of the numerals is nothing like what it should be on a real one.

That's very true. Why they're so comical is a mystery.
