I know it is cleaned, what net grade would you assign it?

It looks AU-50, cleaned or not.

Still a very nice FE.

Hi Chrsb,
I think I see enough detail loss to rule out an original MS grade; I'd call it AU-58 in terms of wear. At a guess I'd think ANACS would "net" it down to EF-40 or EF-45 at best. The hairlines on both sides are quite obvious.

For the record, I bought a raw MS 1857 flyer years ago that was net-graded to AU-55 by ANACS. That coin I believe was a true MS and had no hairline scratches, but had apparently been dipped which gave it an odd color. I sold it on Teletrade where it fetched $240. Your coin is more seriously impaired so the net grading should be more severe.

The cleaning is unfortunate, but it's a beauty, I would go along with Jaobler.
Rest in Peace

I really don't see the detail loss. Maybe I'm not looking closely enough. Ms-60 details.

I'm also struggling to find much to fault about this one despite the cleaning, shouldn't this
be an AU 50 or 55 in American grading systems? I'd go with the 50...

I'll just offer a comparison to my slabbed FE cents.
Judging by the critical details on the eagle, I think this would at least qualify for AU58--originally. Pretty good strike.
However, it's been harshly cleaned (whizzed/scrubbed) as to obliterate the detail needed to accurately grade.
The hairlines and bleached look are a dead giveaway--the mint surfaces are gone.
I don't see a special variety here, so the value is knocked down significantly--VF prices at best.

I'm with KurtS. Harshly cleaned and only the slightest bit of rub on the highest points. Breast, wheat. AU58 det. cl.
