2017-D-George-Rogers-Clark-Die-Chip?

I am very new to error searching, so bear with me. This image was the best I could get.

It is a raised line under the brim of the hat. My question is: Is this a die chip or something else?

Thank you in advance!

-Tom

Looks like damage from another coin's edge. Keep searching!

How would PMD cause the metal to stick out? It's not indented like I would expect damage to be.

Is ANY part of this area below the coin's surface - that is, could metal have been pushed up sideways?

I'm happy I finally found something interesting! I'll work on getting a better picture for you. I was CRH and almost threw this back. Luckily the spot in question is in the field and I could see it with the naked eye.

Be certain it isn't a foreign substance just stuck on there.

For sure. Will try to get several pictures. My new toy is my microscope, so it's just torture to play with it!

Apparently not. These lie above the surface. Read earlier.

It's apparently PSD. It's incuse, not raised. It's a reeding mark from another Quarter.

So looking further at the image, I may want to give the whole quarter another good look. I attached what looks like another die crack to me.

Just contact mark from the edge of another quarter. If done at an angle, it can push some metal upwards on the one side of the contact mark.

Just like snow, when it is pushed it raises. Same with metal. If it make an incuse mark on the coin, the metal is pushed in the new direction.

Yeah...I agree...it would be very strange to find die chips in the middle of a field without a die break attached.
