Hello, Please Help 1953 S Penny Error Nose?
2019, June 26
Hello, I'm not to familiar with error coins. Can someone please help me identify if this is an error coin and if it is a rare coin as well. Check out Abe's nose. Is this what you would call a Cud error? I'm posted a pic below. Thank you!
to CCF. Not an error. It is damage from circulation. The nose took a hit and displaced the copper a bit. A Cud always includes the rim,so your coin is not a Cud. John1
@cst, first welcome to CCF. Second, I agree with @john1 that Abe took a hit on his nose which moved over a little piece of copper. This is not a mint error, although interesting to look at.

If it were a die chip, the area of the nose would still be there and a chip would be more likely to show on the field. A Cud is on the edge of the die that breaks away from the die. Here are some die events that can happen to a die.
