First of all, I'd like to state that I know that probably this topic has been discussed hundreds of times here and on other boards, that it cannot be said once and for all which coin is the best blah blah blah.

However, it wasn't probably done on this scale. First, I'll give everyone enough time to send in (post) their favorite (= most beautiful in their opinion) coins. Any coin is eligible for the contest, provided it is:

* circulation or commemorative issue (no patterns, fakes, fantasy, tokens).
* 1800+
There are no other restrictions.

Each member can nominate any number of coins, as many times as he/she wishes. If we end up with 128, we can handle that

Please post your nominees below, like this:
COUNTRY, face value, year(s) minted, description/name if applicable.
I'd have to request links to a picture of each coin 1994+. Since I have no reference on those, I'd like to know what we're talking about.

Please take your time and contribute to this project
I'll update the list below as you post.

I'll have to give this more thought. Here are a couple more that come to mind (but I'm unsure they're the "most beautiful" lol)
Canada, $1, 1967, KM #70, Centennial Commemorative.
Finland, 25 Markkaa, 1979, KM #58*, Turku 750 years commemorative.
Newfoundland, 1 cent, 1938-47, KM #18

I've also seen some very nice Poland commemoratives, but I'll have to find the details.
*these are the catalog reference #s used in Krause.

US, 50c, Connecticut Tercentenary Commemorative Half Dollar (1935)
World's-Most-Beautiful-Coin

So hard to choose as there are many coins which have obverses or reverses that I love but it's the rare coin that has both a beautiful obverse and reverse.

I'd have to add the Silver American Eagle series, even though the design was borrowed from one already on your list, the details are much better on the larger coin. And the best of the series the Reverse Proof.

GREAT BRITAIN/50 Pence/1994/D-Day Landings commemorative

I'd like to submit something from the other side of the Atlantic - A commemorative 50 pence marking the D-Day landings. The design on this coin is unusually detailed and dynamic.

I have yet to get one for myself but it's on the list.

My number one is already there!

So I will add:

USA, 50 cents, 1948-1963 Franklin!

Since you are not accepting fantasy pieces, I won't mention the FranklinIke, aka, FrankenIke.

Fantasy...or otherwise!
Here's another which I think may be underrated, but I'm sure some Aussies would agree:
Australia, 1 Penny, 1938-1964 (Roo reverse) KM# 36

Hmm...if that's simply "realism", it may be taking the idea a bit too far.

Forgot to add that you can include US colonial issues. Seriously, I meant to write it but simply forgot..

And that I reserve the right to refuse adding one coin. The ONE above!
