I pulled two of these from a roll of BU 1956-D wheaties and I cannot find something similar in variety vista. Is this a bunch of nothing?

Definitely Die Deterioration Doubling, since the doubling is ghost-like. It's merging to the rim.

I understand that the blue arrow is Die Deterioration Doubling, but is the black arrow also DDD?

Yes. Note the direction of the die wear flow lines. All flowing the same direction. The 1950's wheat cents way over used and the dies are used a long time after the normal retirement.
