This dime had raised cross-hatch lines on the flat surfaces of both sides. Is this from Die Deterioration or grease? (Because of the lighting, they may look like depressions. But they are raised. Try rotating the picture.) On the ridge of the nose, above the eye, there is a raised oblong spot. Is this from a die chip? Behind the head next to the rim is an impression that looks like it might be from a small wire or string. Is this a struck through item? On the reverse, the bottom seed pod left of the torch has a crease across the tip. There is also a raised circle above the pod. What would cause these last 2 defects?

Over polished die and a struck through (lower area) hair?

But if I'm right, should you be proud or aghast?

Crude polishing...

So the die scratches are the cross hatch that you are seeing to cover up a previous die clash. But the other area looks like a struck through thread from what I can see.

Note the affected areas on the outline of both sides of the design? That is what they tried to cover up and it may have had another clash after the previous clash cover up?

Thanks to everyone for the your input, and to coop for the excellent visial aids. So if I were to describe this coin, would I label it as a struck through coin with crude polishing, or are there better technical terms to use?

Pretty much a normal coin. If the clash lines were strong it would be an example of that. But they are real strong. So just a spender or an educational piece to show a new collector.
