I always look forward to finding coins in the coin tray at the local Publix Coin Star Coin counter. Typically foreign coins. But today a real treasure. A nickel, a BU 2019 cent in really nice condition. And this 1966 Kennedy half dollar! Really nice find 40% silver waiting for me. My coolest find yet. Sharing since it cool to see one in circulation still, let alone in a tray as a kick out. Wonder did it kick out due to composition, that Kennedy's can't be counted in those machines, or because it was already overloaded counting Kennedy halves.

Very cool find! I have yet to use those but have heard folks have had good luck with finding older stuff from time to time.

Coinstar take half and small dollars so likely it's the composition. I have found though that they have real trouble not kicking out BU coins as rejects and they have to be run 2 or 3 times for some reason.. and BU 1999 SBA dollars... it just won't take mine for some reason but it might be specific machine issue.

Nice. We have a section for CoinStar finds. Did you check it for varieties? John1

Nice! Machine kicked it out due to it's weight difference. Back at the first of the year, I found a Franklin half in a Coinstar reject tray, along with 30 other silver coins, mostly quarters.

Great find and congratulations! A silver JFK is always a welcome sight - especially when it makes your day, like I am sure this one did.

Most likely kicked out due to weight. While the mint tolerance for half dollars is pretty wide and the clad and 40% weight ranges overlap a LOT, I would suspect the Coin Star has set their acceptance tolerances a lot tighter and the heavier weight of the average 40% half is outside the allowed tolerance for the CuNi clad halves.
