Ok,

I just posted this thread on another forum but feel it's worth sharing everywhere.

If the internet was around 100 years ago and there were forums such as CCF what would people be talking about?

Just assume everything else is the same but the internet is alive and thriving in 1908.

Can you imagine the discussions?

Feel free to expound I'll toss a few "scenarios" out.

Question: How do I preserve my coins?
Answer: Lacquer does a great job! My dad has used it for years!.

Thread topic: My latest circulation find!
WOW! You guys won't believe this but I just found my third 1856 Flying Eagle cent in circulation. Kinda dirty so I'll clean it up like the others!

Thread topic: Dollar Coins.
Why don't they just make them all gold. These darn Morgan dollars are just to cumbersome.

You guys get the idea. Have at it and enjoy!

This could be an interesting topic. I probably need to think of some interesting scenarios. If this thread continues into the next year, I am sure we can contemplate the "chatter" surrounding that new Lincoln Cent!

Hey Ben, I need the 1893-S Dollar and I see you have one. How about I give you my 1898-O in trade. I see you need that one. Ben, "Sure!"

Maybe I should start putting away Liberty nickels. That Kalaidascope that Edison invented is really chewing them up.

I've got this strange foreign coin. It's got a lion on one side, a squiggly thing on the other. Where's it from?
Who knows? I've got a book about coins from France, and there's nothing described like that in there, so it's not from France, but beyond that I can't say. Somebody should probably write some kind of book or catalog or something that's got coins from all over the world in it.

I've got an 1880 series $20 note with serial number 77777777. What's it worth?
Twenty dollars. Why? What should it be worth?

I've got a quarter that's got a peculiar sort of heart-shaped blob on one side of the shield, and "STATES" is missing a letter. Does it mean anything?
Probably not, though it's hard to say without seeing a picture. I sure wish someone would invent some way of transmitting an image over the Internet. If you hire a photographer and get him to take a photograph of your coin, and mail it to me, I can let you know for sure.

Hey you people in Australia, I hear you're about to get your own coinage for the very first time. Have any of you seen what the proposed designs are?
I don't think there's anyone from Australia on this forum. They don't have electricity down there yet.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

I'd show you all what I found in change today but Monitors haven't been invented yet.
Darn, my digital camera's card has no place to download.
No coins today. Got to go to my stock broker and buy a lot of Buggy Whip Company stocks. Rumor has it that gasoline will someday be to expensive for cars so the Horse and Buggy will return.
Wrote a letter today to the Mint. Complained my vending machines are all set up for the Large Cent and now those little tiny ones are all over the place.
Want to have some fun. Look through your change for a 1883 Nickel without Cents on the back, copper plate it and you can spend it as a $5 Gold piece.
Anyone notice the Mint stopped making Silver Dollars a few years ago. So what are we supposed to use? I suspect they are trying to force us to use that paper money stuff.
Sure wonder why the Mint hasn't thought of making coins out of Steel yet. Would last longer, be cheaper to make, could find them when dropped by using a magnet and in about 80 years our steel mills will still be in service.

Hey! did I come up with a great idea. Instead of putting a lady on our coins, and they can't even vote, why not put a man's face on them. The Mint has already started this with the Cent. Women on a coin? They've been doing that for years so why not us guys? Lincoln is a start but I think we should continue this with men on all our coins otherwise some day women will be not only voting but running for Presidency.
We could also apoligize to the American Indians for taking their faces off the Cent and putting a President there instead. I know, put that Indian back on a Nickel.
WOW! Some guy just pulled up in front of a coin store in a thing he called a Dalorian or something like that. No horses and all Silvery looking. Said he wanted all penny coins made in this year 1909.
