I've heard of overgrading coins to be hopeful, and even undergrading to be conservative - but this seems really out. This one was marked VF on the flip! Am I right in grading at least XF, if not EF?

I'm not sure about grade, but it looks like it may have been dipped. The "lustre" is really flat in those pics.

I'd say this makes XF (EF).

Tossup between VF-35 and EF-40, very possibly details (cleaned). The crown bands are complete, but flattened, suggesting EF-40. The ribbon, hair, eyebrow, and moustache, suggest VF-35. The fields are really nice for a fish scale. All in all, nice coin.

Held to Vf30 at best due to the scratch on George's head.

Personally I think It would be generous to call this a 40. IMO this is a tricky one though: certain areas look EF but other high points have wear indicative of a 20-30.
