The reverse is unremarkable. I think I see the faintest trace of a 2 after the 7. Note the uneven rim.

That would be my guess - remarkable example. Could you show us the reverse, please.

Just asking because I don't know enough about capped die coins. If this is "just" Struck Through Grease, then why is the obv rim from 10 to 2 o'clock so wire sharp?

I had said I considered the reverse unremarkable, but now that I look at it more closely, I can see it exhibits an uneven rim like the obverse does. So perhaps the strike was a bit off center, to boot.

The previous owner of the coin had put it in a 2v2 and identified it as a capped die, but I had my doubts about that assessment from the get-go. Not that a nice Greaser is a bad thing!

It is a Struck Through Grease error. The clue? The full shaped rims. If it were a struck through the rims would look different:
Note the shape of these rims:

Instead of looking rounded, this almost looks like a saucer. Why do they look like that? Because the capped die is rounding the edge of the die, instead of having a crisp line near the rims.

See how they are rounded on this image. That is the normal most coins have when they are newly struck.
