Hi guys,
Recently acquired
Is it foolish to think about the grade of this coin to be VF30-VF35?

Newfoundland coins had a tendency to be very worn, this is a nice example, at least high VF if not maybe in hand, EF

And, a hard to find date in this condition, good job...

Great coin! Rock solid VF-35 at a minimum. Anything over F sure seems scarce as hen's teeth for most of the early Newfoundland fifty cents.

VF30, won't make EF.

Traditionally there is no VF35 in Canadian grading, it's something that crawled up at us from south of the border.
ICCS does not use VF35.
CCCS has only recently succumbed to pressure of Americanization and started to use VF35 in hopes of increasing their dwindling market share.

Looks VF30 to me. Nothing higher, however. ICCS is very hard on grading NL coins. Sadly I've seen ICCS holders with similar coins in them bearing a Vf20 designation that are obviously VF30.

Nice coin.

Agree totally on ICCS being tough on nfld coins. Sellers opinion was vf20 but I figured there is enough hair detail on the braid and above forehead to squeeze a solid 35. Regardless I am happy as a 30!

Here's another that should grade VF-30. It's a great and much underrated series. The star will always be 1880 but 1888 is always on the honorary mentions.
