Hello all, I am brand new to the forum so please excuse any formatting issues or problems with picture upload. I was going through a bunch of recently acquired Buffalo's when I came across what appears to be a 1938 S Buffalo nickel. The S is very clear and not a D over S variety. The date is more questionable though after carefully studying under high magnification, I cannot come up with a more likely number. Please advise

... to the Community! Post mint damage on either a 1930-S, 1935-S or a 1936-S coin. Damage to the coin results in it being treated as a cull and worth approximately 10 cents.

ztahoe71, I see what you see, but think it must be another date.

Considering no buffalos were coined in San Francisco, and they knew they weren't going to strike any, no 1938 dated dies would have been sent to San Francisco

The only possible dates are 1926-S, 1927-S, 1928-S, 1929-S, 1930-S, 1936-S, or 1937-S. Those are the only San Francisco dates struck with Obverse Design Variety 007.
