Could someone please tell me what the ridge around the rim is and how it gets there ? It's on the OBV. and the REV.

I posted a very similar topic on a 86 Lincoln Penny... was told it was just: "it is a form of die deterioration/deformation."

The cent was a Die Deterioration issue but I do not think it is the same with this coin as this coin shows no other major signs of Die Deterioration and this one has whatever this is on both the obverse and the reverse, equally off centered, so to speak.

I've never seen this before so I am not sure what the deal is.

I would wait for Mike D. and Coppercoins thoughts on this one.

Yeah, so did my penny... here's a better picture for you, now that I got my scanner figured out.

The ring is on the back as well, you can see it best in the scans arround the word "America" and on the right side of the lincoln memorial. And, the ring is pretty consistant.

Your cent is different because of the fact that the plating reacts differently than what would be the surface of a non-plated silver coin.

The cent is Die Deterioration.

The dime is something else that has yet to be determined.

Thanks,
Bill

The cent is definitely Die Deterioration.

On the dime, I have no clue. It's odd, that's for sure.
