Could you show us a straight-on pic of the edge?

I don't believe it's a clipped planchet from the mint . That coin has been in circulation too long to not get noticed by a collector . PSD .

@coinfrog will do. And Just due to the fact that it's been in circulation for a long time doesn't mean that it can't be a clip. that makes no sense

Quote: that makes no sense Actually it does. Are the odds zero? No, of course not. But it makes the odds it's a legit clip much slimmer for sure.

Especially on a large coin like this. But let's see the edge.

Hey guys, raise your hands if you forgot about the Blakesley effect...I'm not seeing any, therefore PMD

I think its cut - striations seem to hint at this. But the big one for me is I see no evidence of the Blakesley affect: Weakening in the rim opposite side from the clip. In fact the REV side is a strong rim 180 degrees form the alleged clip.

Quote: But the big one for me is I see no evidence of the Blakesley affect I agree that this coin doesn't look like a clip and doesn't show any weakening opposite to this defect. However, correct me if I am wrong, but I was thinking that there isn't a perfect 1:1 correlation between clips and the Blakesley Effect. In other words, sometimes there will be a clip without BE.

So here's some more for thought.,. MM looks weird to. I understand it looks as if "it took a hit" but as you can see the lines are raised.
