I really like the draped bust series.
XF45 perhaps? Great coin!

Actually it's NET VF-20. Net because there is a counter mark on the reverse. Can you find it?

Very attractive coin with original patina. I'd call it a solid VF-35 based on wear. I always thought the 1801 and 1802 dollars were smart buys. They are definitely less available than the 1799 and 1800-dated coins.

That "countermark" sure isn't obvious! Is it in the clouds? Several clouds look like they were lightly stamped with a circular tool. The result is still similar to the original design, so I can't be sure! The patina sure looks undisturbed.

I guess I'm totally off-base and did not see the countermark. I actually went to Heritage and looked at a few slabbed XF40s that seem to have as much or more wear than yours. Here's one graded XF40 by NGC--what do others think? I probably haven't studied this series enough to tell.

Eagles breast feathers, dead center above the shield.

This piece does not reside in any holder. A raw Puppy.

I'd say XF40. Some underlying luster evident. Great coin! Congrats!

My photos aren't too good, but here is my 1800 AMERICAI dollar, graded VF35 by PCGS. I judge CCya's coin to be approximately the equal of this piece in terms of wear. I do think the 1801 has a somewhat better strike on the reverse, especially on the eagle's head. My coin is choice for the VF35 grade if you can believe the dealer's story; he claimed it had been cracked out of an NGC EF-40 slab before being submitted to PCGS. It does have a trace of luster remaining around the stars and letters.

Thanks for posting the photo--it's interesting to compare the two. I'm better educated now.
I also think I'm seeing a little less wear on the cheek, forehead and nose of the first coin. There's more detail in the lower feather tips too.
Then again there's that countermark, and I'm not PCGS--their grade obviously carries more weight than mine, lol. There's no substitute for seeing a coin in hand.
