*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. Titles are Important! ***

Hi! So this 1955 D, has what appears to be a filled in 5. I am not sure if this is a common error, or an extra piece of metal? Or PMD?

Also, it appears there MIGHT be something in between the 9 and the 5, almost looks like a faded S?

I read about the "poor man's 55 DDO," could this possibly be that?

Any input and info if greatly appreciated, as I am still a newbie =)

Oh! Also, when you see an irregular shaped mint mark (which I think this one has slightly), would it be most likely a RPM? Because I am unsure if this is a normal mint mark with age/deterioration, or an RPM that does not have significant definition between the two stamped mint marks... thanks again everyone!

Your coin looks normal to me except for the filled 5 which is just a die chip. The poor mans DDO is just Die Deterioration. It has been given that name to make it easier for people to sell. Keep hunting!

Well, if I look closely at the 3rd picture, the base of the D mint mark does have a vertical line down the left side, as if it were an RPM stamped slightly crooked to the left, but I am not sure if this is normal or if it is a mark/scratch after a hit.

I will post a picture close up and pointing to it! I really appreciate your time, as this is constantly something I am unsure of when hunting!

1955-D-LWC,-Variety?-Error?-DDO?

Is line at the base of the D significant for an RPM?

I have added it this time, but you should include the date, mintmark, and the denomination in your titles.

Why Topic Titles are Important

The title of your topic is very important. Let's say you need help attributing an 1896 Morgan Dollar....

  • Horrendous: Help!

  • Bad: Need help with coin

  • Better: Need help with Morgan Dollar

  • Good: Need help with 1896 Morgan Dollar

  • Awesome: Need help with VAM on 1896 Morgan Dollar
