1998 Penny Possible Strike Through Or PMD

Tkklinner New Member United States 11 Posts	Posted 08/27/2019 2:16 pm I am new to hunting errors and what not. I came across a 1998 Penny with a dent on the obverse and what looks like Lincolns hair showing on the reverse size of the dent. I am wondering if this could be a strike through or simply PMD. The pics I have so far so not give the reverse justice as far as what I am seeing under magnification that looks like Lincolns hair from the obverse. Report this Post to the Staff

The pattern of "hair" on the reverse just reflects the texture of whatever this coin was squished against when the dent was made on the other side. coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 08/27/2019 5:22 pm If this were a struck through, the area pushed inwards would be totally flat on the opposite side, because the die would have kept the fields normal in flatness. (that would be a struck through) After the coin is struck, a contact mark can show inwards on one side and pushed out on the opposite side. That is called post strike damage. ( PSD) Not an error, just damage. Report this Post to the Staff
