I am new to hunting errors and what not. I came across a 1998 Penny with a dent on the obverse and what looks like Lincolns hair showing on the reverse size of the dent. I am wondering if this could be a strike through or simply PMD. The pics I have so far so not give the reverse justice as far as what I am seeing under magnification that looks like Lincolns hair from the obverse.

Looks like damage from one side to the other.

To CCF! Probably a vise job, PSD. Not an error coin.

@tkk, first welcome to CCF. Second, I agree that this is just damage. The pattern of "hair" on the reverse just reflects the texture of whatever this coin was squished against when the dent was made on the other side.

If this were a struck through, the area pushed inwards would be totally flat on the opposite side, because the die would have kept the fields normal in flatness. (that would be a struck through)
After the coin is struck, a contact mark can show inwards on one side and pushed out on the opposite side. That is called post strike damage. ( PSD) Not an error, just damage.

While on damage...Would this qualify as well. Or new topic?

Yes also looks like damage, but you are right that best practice is to start a new thread for each new coin. That helps us when we go back and look for specific coins with the search function.
