Just remembered. There should be a couple of the RP AI dollars in the same box. That may complicate things. Anyone know how that would work if I do end up submitting?

I think you'll have to grade all the coins.

Give PCGS a call in an hour or so after they open and see how they're dealing with it. Generally you'd probably have to grade them all but this is a special situation so there's probably an exception.

Bret, if someone is willing to pay you a lot more to have it graded, then yes I can justify the $150. Just check the ebay sold listings for graded vs ungraded. The market has spoken about what is reasonable. This can always change down the line but that's the risk you take. And then factor in the rarity of a signed COA and how many of those will be submitted with an unopened box to certify the coin with the COA...yes it is an artificial price inflation but the reality is people are willing to pay for it

I have always been in the "stick with OGP" group, but I decided to go ahead with grading this one. The potential value difference if I sell makes it worth it for me. I have a question though. I know that all of these qualify for first strike designation, so is there any benefit from paying extra for it? Would anyone see value in having that, even though every one of the coins would qualify as first strike?

Quote: Only downside is that 69 grade which is selling at the same price as raw. I thought they haven't shipped out the graded ones yet? I would have expected a 69 to still be well over raw price.

My entire collection of ASE's, with the exception of one, is in PCGS slabs. I like the slabs for modern proof and unc coins, if you wait a year or two after release most come down to a reasonable cost, sometimes not more than a few $ over original mint pricing for MS69 or PF69. So for consistency I want this one in a PCGS holder as well. I spent about $200 for grading at PCGS, that includes $69 membership, FS, COA, and there and back shipping. The other choice was to buy one already slabbed for whatever pricing they are getting on ebay, or other means. I also wanted it slabbed for reasons pointed out by others, in the event I do want to sell it at some future time it may help resale value. And the 1:300 lottery of a signed COA was a factor as well. The one that is not in a slab is a 1994 unc, still in the original mylar flip the guy at the LCS put it in back in 1994, no milk spots.

Generally they have an added value which one something like this that is much more than the cost of FS. If nothing else they're more liquid, some collectors only want FS or like them better so if you don't get it you've eliminated/turned off some potential buyers.

Quote: I thought they haven't shipped out the graded ones yet? I would have expected a 69 to still be well over raw price. The coins from MCM and Pinehurst are pre-sales. The 69's are selling at the same price as raw. ..and re: a couple of stray PF's in the box with the ERP... I would call NGC and explain (or email them). You can request return Mint packaging and make a comment on the form... which should cover the other coins, The "you must grade all" usually refers to sets that are submitted....you can't pick one coin from the set to grade

I bit the bullet and decided to send it off for grading and take the risk. Sent it off by registered mail yesterday and went over FC mail weight limit by an ounce and a half and had to do priority. Says it'll get there Monday but with Registered it usually takes longer. With that said it already left the distribution center so they might be moving faster than normal in anticipation of the holiday shipping season.

I think Raw and PR69 being the same currently just speaks to the hotness of the coin and the speculators, speculating that raw is likely to grade better than PR69.
Normally there should be a gap forming between the two, when 69s are more common or lower.
For the time being, the raw could exceed the PR69 graded price, at least until more and more 70s get graded by the companies and 70s becomes common and known. people are betting the raw coin will grade 70 and they will quick flip it for a couple thousand and make the $1200, heck closer to $1300 raw price worth the cost.
When all the graded 70s start showing up everything is crashing I think though.

I took my unopened box to a gurú and he was able to telepathically see I have a 1 of 100 signed COA and a coin that will grade at 70 so looks like I will be sending mine in
