[Oh, and FYI -- this was about a $500 coin. The same coin in MS68 would be worth around $5000.]

Slight scuffing on the truncation of Lib's neck, and the star adjacent.
Way better condition than any U.S. coin that I have.

The highest condition for ancient coins is 'as struck' (not uncirculated) I have a Roman antoninianus of Gallienus that may? qualify. 'As struck' ancient coins however, can be still quite poorly struck.

Mines just a little 3¢ nickel. It's not as nice as the OPs Morgan, but I think it fits the topic.

That's a sensational coin. Are you going to have it graded?

Thanks! Yes, it's one of about 10 coins I have that will be sent for grading.

Here's another I want to have graded.

Nice nickel, USSID18. The Shield nickel is one of the few coins I've never had in my collection. I do have 3 counterfeit examples. I have the 1879, '80 and '81 that all look like high MS coins. I bought them on ebay from someone who sent them to PCGS and had them "No Holdered." I think I paid $20 for the trio. I sure hope the seller didn't get killed by the person he bought them from. I can take pictures if anyone is interested.

Wow! Nice Cameo 3¢, GrapeCollects.

Maybe you can tell me if the Three Cent Nickel should go to PCGS or NGC. I "know" that in some coin series collectors like slabbed coin from PCGS and others like NGC. I've heard Franklin half dollar collectors like NGC. Fact? Rumor? Has anyone else heard this?

For the the 3cn I don't think it matters, though typically people prefer 19th century proofs by PCGS. Franklin collectors like NGC because they are stricter with FBL

Those Three Cent Nickels seem to have weathered the years remarkably well, perhaps because nickel is harder than silver? My second highest grade classic coin is also a Three Cent Nickel:
