Tough one ! I have to lean towards AU... The close up of the date and surrounding area APPEARS to have alot of small hairline scratches that would indicate some circulation. The luster pattern in the pictures seems strange too, might be cleaned/dipped. Just my humble opinion, and I am in no way an expert on these. MS examples of these coins are not an every day occurrence for me ! I would love to see more opinions on this one.

I thought it might be scratches of some kind but its in a more paisley pattern, under a very fine layer of...dirt?. Its not scratches.

Don't know if it's uncirculated, but it sure looks to have been dipped or cleaned at some point.

I think there is to much dirt in the denticles?, date and stars to have been cleaned.

Quote: I think there is to much dirt in the denticles?, date and stars to have been cleaned. I might be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong looking at a photo on the internet. If you decide to have it graded by PCGS, let me know. If it comes back in a problem-free slab I will give you $10 toward your grading costs.

It does have a bit of a "scrubbed" look to it, which might be the result of an over-aggressive dipping. Luster is not very strong according to the photos. Does it have a complete cartwheel luster in-hand? If so, it may be a genuine UNC with no serious problems. Based on the photos, I'd lean towards an "AU-58 details, cleaned" grade.

OK, I can see I'm gonna have to take a few more pictures with a different camera...the previous ones were done with a microscope. Give me a minute.

You need a more direct light source to show luster on this coin. You can have the light at an angle and the coin at the opposite side with the same angle.

Prethen, NOt sure what ya mean about the angles. My pics are awful and would like to get em better. So do you mean camera directly about the coin, light to the right and it and coin tilted in the same direction or opposite directions: light coin / / camera? Sorry for being so dense. 3-D is not my plane

It is entirely possible that this coin has MS details but looking at photo #3 in your first post, it appears as if it has been "messed with" in some manner, possibly an old aggresive dipping. I might change my opinion if you can get some photos to show luster instead of shine.

Those look MUCH better. I won't hazard a grade, but in the original pictures, it actually looked WHIZZED. Compared to a few examples I saw.
