As I am learning...Could you please give your opinion on these Lincoln die cracks . I have some smaller ones but these are the best 4 coins that I could find. I had to take 3 pics of each to show all the crack (exept last one) Any different reason for the straight crack on the 1996, or just cracked? I took pics freehand so a little blurry but you can see pretty good . Thanks for any help.
Die cracks and minor gouges are very common on Lincoln cents. What you have on the 1996 cent is not a crack, which is why it is straight - that's a die gouge, probably caused by some sort of tool on the die. It's a bit worn which tells it was probably on the die very early in its life, and has worn through die use.
Die cracks are fairly common, out of about $25 worth of rolls, I usually find at least 40-50. No real value unless the crack is extreme, and than only some actually collect them.
